The contingent of the DPRK army continues to participate in russia's criminal war against Ukraine. North Korean soldiers, in particular, fire from artillery and multiple launch rocket systems, perform aerial reconnaissance, artillery reconnaissance tasks, and correct MLRS strikes. This was reported by the Defense Intelligence.

As of January 2026, a group of North Korean troops is located in the Kursk Oblast, from which it carries out attacks on border Ukrainian communities.

According to intelligence officers, one of the key goals of the DPRK army's participation in the russian-Ukrainian war is to focus on mastering drones and gaining experience in conducting modern warfare.

"Within the framework of the agreements between Moscow and Pyongyang, a regular rotation of military personnel stationed in the Kursk Oblast is carried out. Since the beginning of the North Korean contingent's participation in the war against Ukraine, about three thousand soldiers have already returned to the DPRK - trained and experienced. Most of them are becoming military instructors in order to transfer the acquired skills of waging war in the 21st century to the entire DPRK army," the Defense Intelligence said.
