The Kremlin is trying to present its alleged adherence to the "energy truce" as a significant concession to strengthen its own position at the next round of talks in Abu Dhabi. This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts emphasize that the massive combined attack by the russian federation on the night of February 3 only confirmed: Moscow did not plan to use the moratorium on energy strikes for a real de-escalation of the war or to advance US peace initiatives. According to ISW, this is not the first time that russia has initiated short "pauses", simulating readiness for peace, while at the same time abandoning the idea of a longer ceasefire or a complete moratorium on long-range strikes.
"The Kremlin will likely try to present this short-term moratorium on energy strikes as a significant concession to gain leverage in future peace talks, even though it used these few days to stockpile missiles for a larger strike," analysts believe.
ISW also emphasizes that the so-called "energy truce" cannot be considered a real concession on the part of russia, because during the moratorium period, russian troops continued to strike Ukrainian logistics and infrastructure, in fact only changing the priorities of targets.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, a few hours ago, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Trump was not surprised when he learned that the russian federation had launched a massive attack on Ukraine.
