In Ukraine, the peak of the current severe frosts has already passed, but significant warming should not be expected in the coming days. This was reported by forecaster Vitalii Postryhan, commenting on the weather situation in the country.

"On the positive side, the peak of the current cold has passed. In the conditions of an anticyclone, the night is coldest before dawn and it is already behind us. The trend of mild, so-called European winters has created a false feeling that there will be no more abnormally cold periods. But these Arctic invasions, in the conditions of climate change, have reminded us that winter can be like that," the forecaster noted.

According to him, on February 4, severe frosts will still persist in Ukraine: at night the temperature will drop to -18…-23 degrees, during the day -8…-13 degrees are expected. At the same time, an atypical temperature distribution is observed in different parts of Europe, when it is warmer in the north than in the central and eastern regions of Ukraine.

"From February 5, the restructuring will start. The trough of the cyclone "Romina", filled with the warmth of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea, will gradually push the anticyclone "Daniel" with anomalous coldness beyond the eastern borders of our state. However, warming will be slow: heavy, dry and cold air will not move so quickly," Postryhan explained.

He also warned that a new cold snap of Scandinavian origin is possible on February 8-9, although it will not be as sharp as the current wave of frost.

"According to preliminary forecast estimates, from February 8-9, a new wave of cold of Scandinavian origin should be expected. Fortunately, this is not the same coldness. We are monitoring this process," the forecaster noted.

The specialist also noted that January 2026 in Ukraine turned out to be significantly colder than the climate norm and became one of the coldest in recent decades, with more days with severe frosts and fewer thaws.

Recall that the Arctic cold is gripping Ukraine: frosts down to -29, ice and snow with rain - the weather forecast for the week.
