Russians damaged Hall of Fame of Museum of History of Ukraine in WWII at foot of Motherland Monument

Russians damaged the Hall of Fame of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War at the foot of the Motherland Monument.

Vice Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy - Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna announced this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"This is a monument of science and technology of local importance. Symbolically and cynically at the same time: the aggressor state strikes at a place of memory of the fight against aggression in the 20th century, repeating crimes already in the 21st century," she noted.

Berezhna reported that specialized services are working at the site - museum specialists, technical services and police, they are inspecting the territory, recording damage and determining the initial assessment of the damage caused, after the survey is completed, the scope of restoration work will be known.

At the same time, she noted that the museum continues to operate.

According to her, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, russia has damaged or destroyed more than 1,680 cultural heritage sites and thousands of cultural infrastructure facilities.

"This is a deliberate destruction of culture and memory, which requires a consolidated response from the international community. In particular, through strengthening sanctions against russia and providing Ukraine with additional air defense means," the minister noted.

Berezhna noted that it is precisely for the systematic work on the restoration and protection of Ukrainian heritage that the Ministry of Culture, together with partners, is building the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Culture reported that on the night of January 24, as a result of a russian massive missile and drone attack in Kyiv, the objects of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, were damaged.
