Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed the fact of a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, but in his public statement he did not mention any agreements on stopping purchases of russian oil.
Modi reported this on the social network X.
"Wonderful to speak with my dear friend President Trump today. Delighted that Made in India products will now have a reduced tariff of 18%. Big thanks to President Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India for this wonderful announcement," the Indian Prime Minister wrote.
According to Modi, cooperation between the two major economies and the largest democracies in the world is mutually beneficial and opens up new opportunities for the development of partnership.
"President Trump's leadership is vital for global peace, stability, and prosperity. India fully supports his efforts for peace," the Indian Prime Minister stressed.
He also said that he looks forward to continuing close cooperation with the US President to take the bilateral partnership to a new level.
At the same time, in his message, Narendra Modi did not in any way confirm information about India's possible refusal to purchase russian oil, as Donald Trump had previously stated.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Trump had claimed the day before that India had agreed not to buy russian oil.
Earlier, Reuters wrote, citing sources, that russia had set a record discount on Urals oil in an attempt to encourage Indian companies to buy it.
