On the night of February 1, power engineers completed repairs to the high-voltage line connecting Ukraine's power system with Moldova. The work was completed at 2:00 am, after which the connected capacity of 500 MW began to stabilize the power supply of the southern regions of the country.
This was reported by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
He reported on the restoration of the line and emphasized the importance of this step for balancing the network.
What is known about the blackout on January 31
The day before, January 31, at 10:42 am. It consisted in the simultaneous shutdown of the 400 kV line connecting the power systems of Romania and Moldova, and the 750 kV line between the western and central parts of Ukraine.
Emergency power outages were introduced in many regions of Ukraine and the capital. Water and heating were reported to be out, and metro, trolleybus and electric trains were also stopped. In particular, metro trains and escalators were stopped in Kyiv, and water was also cut off.
In Kharkiv, two of the three metro lines, trolleybuses and trams are not working due to power supply problems.
Power engineers need 24 to 36 hours to stabilize the power system and restore electricity supply.
