Russia hit by wave of utility accidents - CCD

Every seventh region of the aggressor country of russia has faced critical accidents in the housing and communal services sector over the past month. This is reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

The CCD notes that, according to russian media estimates, since the beginning of January 2026, large-scale failures in the operation of heating, water supply and electricity networks have been recorded in at least 12 settlements, including cities with a population of over a million. During the peak days of the New Year holidays, the number of accidents reached 26 per day, and in the first eight days of the year alone, more than 200 serious incidents occurred.

The Center emphasizes that the russian authorities explain everything by "abnormal weather" or "local failure", but the real reason is much deeper: chronic wear and tear of the infrastructure. An illustrative example here is the Murmansk Oblast, where tens of thousands of people were left without electricity for three days due to the collapse of Soviet-era power poles.

"The utility collapse in russian regions increasingly clearly shows how destructive the Kremlin is choosing: instead of updating critical infrastructure for its own citizens, resources are being directed to war and the destruction of infrastructure in Ukraine," the CCD summarizes.
