The russian presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has given a cautious assessment of the first trilateral contacts between Ukraine, russia and the United States. According to him, the talks are currently at the expert level, and the agenda contains too complex issues.
Peskov emphasized that moscow continues to insist on the so-called "Anchorage formula", which includes territorial claims that are fundamental for russia. He noted that the conversation is unlikely to be "friendly," but called the very fact that the dialogue has begun positive.
"I can't make an assessment yet. It would be a mistake to count on any such high efficiency of the first contacts. This is a very complex substance. Complex issues are on the agenda, it's no secret, and it is our consistent position that the territorial issue, which is part of the Anchorage formula, is of fundamental importance to the Russian side," he said.
The kremlin also added that the next round of trilateral meetings is scheduled for next week. Despite the absence of a conversation with Trump in putin's schedule, Peskov noted that communication channels allow organizing such a contact "instantly."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, a round of talks between Ukraine, the United States and russia has ended in Abu Dhabi.
A new round of negotiations is expected next week. Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported this. The reporter, citing Ukrainian officials, noted that the trilateral talks between the United States, russia and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi were "positive" and "constructive."
