As a result of another russian attack in Odesa, the building of the astronomical observatory located in Taras Shevchenko Park was damaged. The consequences of the shelling were reported on Facebook by the Odesa Planetarium.

According to preliminary data, the facility has suffered significant damage.

"There is a lot of damage, many windows and doors are damaged, there are other destructions," the institution said in a statement.

Despite the damage, the observatory's staff emphasize that scientific and educational activities will not stop. Thanks to a shelter, a generator, and a water supply, the institution is ready to receive visitors. "The planetarium and telescope are working. We have a shelter and a generator, a water reserve. So we will work," the institution added.

Historical background:

The Odesa Observatory is one of the oldest scientific institutions in Ukraine, it started its activity back in 1871. The building was designed by the famous architect Alexander Bernardazzi. The main value of the observatory is a unique ancient telescope made by Cook and Sons, installed in 1886.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, russian shelling damaged the Polish Embassy in Odesa.
