The trilateral consultations in the UAE with the participation of Ukraine, russia and the US became a key stage that brought the possibility of a direct dialogue between the leaders of the states closer, the diplomatic process entered the phase of active preparation for a potential meeting of the presidents. This is reported by the Axios publication, referring to American and Ukrainian officials.
A senior US representative noted that the parties are now at a stage where direct contact between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and vladimir putin looks quite real in the near future.
"We are very close to a meeting between putin and Zelenskyy," the official emphasized, adding that the successful completion of the next consultations in Abu Dhabi may allow such a meeting to be held directly in Kyiv or Moscow.
During the two-day talks, American mediators, in particular Jared Kushner and Stephen Witkoff, coordinated the discussion of the most pressing issues. According to sources, the agenda included russia's territorial claims to Donbas, the security status of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and a de-escalation roadmap for the final end of hostilities.
Despite the complexity of the topics, the American side noted the constructive atmosphere of the discussions.
"We did not leave any issue out of discussion. There was respect in the room, as both sides were really looking for a solution," Washington concluded.
At the same time, it is noted that these technical meetings of the working groups should become the foundation without which the final negotiations of the leaders will be impossible.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, a round of negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and russia has concluded in Abu Dhabi.
