Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Oleksii Soboliev said that the information on gas imports for the 2025-2026 heating season, which was published by some media, is incorrect.
This is said in a statement by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"The need to import 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas applies to the entire heating season of 2025-2026, half of which the country has already overcome," the minister said.
He added that the lion's share of this volume has already been purchased by Naftogaz of Ukraine, delivered to Ukraine and used by our consumers.
Soboliev noted that as for the rest of the volume to be imported in February-March, the Government, together with the Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC and with the support of international partners, provided most of the necessary financing.
Thus, the unmet needs are estimated at USD 100 million.
Active work is underway to find the necessary financial resources.
The minister emphasized that as of today, there are no threats to gas imports.
The Ministry reminded that the need to import 4 billion cubic meters this heating season arose as a result of russian attacks on gas production facilities and, accordingly, the loss of part of Ukraine's own gas production.
Economy Minister Oleksii Soboliev said during an energy session at the Ukraine House on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum that Ukraine managed to accumulate 13.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas ahead of winter, but still needs to import more than 4 billion cubic meters of gas to survive the winter.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2025, gas imports to Ukraine increased 9 times compared to 2024 to 6.5 bcm (2024: 724 million cubic meters).
Ukraine had to increase gas imports by 30% due to russian strikes.
