In order to unload the Ukrainian power system, the Ukrzaliznytsia Joint Stock Company is starting to import electricity and plans to import about 50% of electricity from the total consumption.

This is said in a notification by Ukrzaliznytsia, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The report says that railroad workers continue to help the country hold on and recover from massive enemy shelling.

"Every day, more than 40 emergency crews of Ukrzaliznytsia work in Kyiv to return heat to Ukrainian homes as soon as possible and eliminate the consequences of attacks on critical infrastructure. These are railroaders from different regions of the country, some of whom have already restored heating networks in Alchevsk in 2006," Ukrzaliznytsia emphasizes.

It is noted that in total there are 97 unbreakable points at the largest railway stations in Ukraine.

Since the beginning of winter, they have already received more than 400,000 people, and since the beginning of severe frosts - since January 9, 2026 - almost 150,000.

About 50 more points of invincibility are operating at small train and bus stations across the country.

In the Kyiv Region, in Irpin, Food Train continues to operate. It has already prepared about 15,000 portions of hot food for residents of the region and railway emergency crews, who help bring warmth back to Ukrainian homes every day.

Heating tents are operating next to the mobile kitchens, where you can eat, drink hot tea, and warm up.

Earlier, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal wrote on his Facebook page that due to the introduction of an emergency situation, state-owned companies, primarily Ukrzaliznytsia and Naftogaz, should urgently ensure the purchase of imported electricity during the 2025/26 heating season in the amount of at least 50% of total consumption.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, due to the emergency in the energy sector, the government is introducing a set of emergency measures to stabilize the situation and protect the population.

The Joint Stock Company Ukrzaliznytsya has decided to temporarily suspend coupon payments on Eurobonds issued before January 9, 2025, issued before the full-scale invasion in 2019 and 2021 to preserve liquidity.
