Former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš supported the idea of direct talks between European leaders and vladimir putin, but suggested that this step may be untimely. He stated this in an interview with the Mandiner publication.
He noted that communication had been broken for a long time, and Viktor Orban's attempts to establish a dialogue had previously been sharply criticized, because the meetings took place according to the scheme: Trump-putin, Europe-Zelenskyy, Zelenskyy-Trump. While Babiš believes that direct talks should be held.
"37 countries asked why direct talks with putin not holding. There was no answer to that. I remember when Hungary held the presidency, Orban first spoke with Zelenskyy, and then with putin. After that, Viktor was sharply criticized for holding talks with putin. Now, finally, more and more voices are saying that Europe should also hold direct talks with him. The question is whether it is too late for that," Babiš noted.
Babiš also emphasized that Donald Trump plays a key role in achieving peace in Ukraine. According to the Czech politician, without the participation of the US President, ending the war is impossible.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Babiš is ready to continue the "shell initiative of the Czech Republic," but only at the expense of other countries.
It was also noted that the EU recognized the inevitability of future talks with putin.
