United States President Donald Trump has invited Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to join and co-found the Board of Peace, which is to ensure lasting peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict. Orbán posted the letter on his X-account on Sunday, January 18.

The Hungarian prime minister wrote that "with President Trump comes peace." According to him, Hungary's peace efforts are being recognized.

"President Trump has invited Hungary to join the work of the Board of Peace as a founding member. We have, of course, accepted this honorable invitation," Orbán wrote.

As a reminder, Bloomberg reported that Trump wants to create a Board of Peace as an alternative or rival to the United Nations, which he has long criticized. The Trump administration is asking countries that want a permanent seat on his new Board of Peace to contribute at least USD 1 billion.

"According to a draft charter for the proposed group seen by Bloomberg, President Donald Trump would serve as its inaugural chairman and would decide on who is invited to be members. Decisions would be taken by a majority, with each member state present getting one vote, but all would be subject to the chairman’s approval," the article says.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 6, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that the future of Hungary is connected with the European Union, but the EU "will fall apart on its own" due to "leadership chaos."
