Russian authorities are trying to form an alternative picture of the fighting by systematically spreading false statements about the alleged capture of Kupiansk.
This is reported by analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
According to ISW analysts, russian military leaders continue to claim that the russian army allegedly controls all districts of Kupiansk, and that the attempts of the Ukrainian Defense Forces to retake the city have been defeated.
At the same time, there are numerous reports that Ukrainian forces have liberated most of the city and surrounding areas.
Analysts note that the spread of disinformation is part of the kremlin's information strategy aimed at influencing the position of the United States and partners on possible peace talks.
This way, russia is trying to impose a narrative about the alleged inevitability of its victory and force Ukraine and the West to agree to russian demands under the threat of future offensives.
The actual situation on the battlefield in the area contradicts the kremlin's claims of russian military superiority and could undermine the propaganda narratives spread by russian dictator vladimir putin and his entourage.
"Kupiansk has become a particular flashpoint for Russian military commanders, likely due to fears that the realities of the battlefield in the area will undermine the narratives of Russian military power that Putin and senior Russian military leaders are trying to spread," the report says.
