The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of creating a so-called Peace Council.

The council could oversee the implementation of a future agreement to end the war in Ukraine, the Financial Times reports, citing sources.

According to the newspaper, the Peace Council is an element of the peace plan for the Gaza Strip, which was agreed upon under Trump's mediation. According to this plan, a body chaired by the US president should coordinate the future governance of the Palestinian enclave.

The creation of a similar Peace Council for Ukraine, also chaired by the American president, is "an important part of the proposals aimed at ending the Russian war," a senior Ukrainian official involved in the talks with the United States told the FT.

According to the source, the council could include representatives of Ukraine, European countries, NATO and russia. The main task of the body would be to guarantee the implementation of the future peace plan and oversee compliance with the agreements.

At the same time, there are no signs that russia is ready to accept or even seriously discuss the 20-point peace plan agreed upon by the United States, Ukraine and its Western allies. Moscow insists on territorial concessions from Kyiv, which the Ukrainian side considers unacceptable.

According to FT sources, the Trump administration is also discussing the possibility of applying the Peace Council model to resolve other conflicts, including in Ukraine and Venezuela.

The plan is expected to be presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos next week.
