Ruslan Martsinkiv, the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, has warned residents to prepare for possible power outages lasting up to 24 hours. It was reported by Misto.
Under such conditions, the temperature in homes can drop to dangerous levels, which requires a clear action plan from the city.
"We are heading towards a situation where there will be no electricity for 24 hours. We have to be prepared. We must have an understanding of what people should do when it's 4 degrees and dark in their apartment. People need to know where they can spend the night," the mayor emphasized, noting that citizens should decide in advance on places to spend the night in case of blackout.
To ensure the safety of residents, the city plans to deploy a network of real, not formal, heating points. The mayor noted that each such location should be equipped with generators, fuel, hot tea and food.
Local educational institutions, in particular schools, are being considered as one of the key options for placing such points. Mr. Martsinkiv emphasized that in the conditions of extreme cold and prolonged power outages, these facilities should become a reliable shelter for people who cannot stay in their own frozen homes.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the situation with power supply in the Kyiv Region remains critical. Due to emergency repairs and instability in the network, some residents of the region will be left without electricity for a long time, and in several districts restrictions have been introduced without observing the schedules.
After the russian shelling on the night of January 13, Kyiv is experiencing even more electricity shortages, even for critical infrastructure.
