The army of the russian aggressor country in the Zaporizhzhia Region is trying to seize a number of positions near the village of Stepnohirsk. Advancing in this area will allow the occupiers to shell Zaporizhzhia.
The spokesman for the Defense Forces of the South of Ukraine Vladyslav Voloshyn said this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, russian troops remain active in the Orikhiv sector. The occupants are trying to advance in several areas in order to move deeper into Ukrainian territory.
One of these areas is near Stepnohirsk. The invaders are conducting assault operations near the settlements of Plavni and Prymorske, trying to get closer to Stepnohirsk.
Voloshyn emphasized that Stepnohirsk is located on a hill. The capture of the settlement will allow the occupiers to deploy certain types of weapons here, with which they will be able to strike at the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia, as well as to keep a number of logistics routes under fire control.
According to the map of the DeepState analytical project, Stepnohirsk is located just over 20 kilometers southeast of Zaporizhzhia.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, yesterday, January 13, the occupiers attacked energy infrastructure facilities in the Zaporizhzhia Region. Two employees of the local regional power company were injured as a result of the shelling.
As a reminder, on January 6, russians used an FPV drone to attack a police car in the Zaporizhzhia Region. Three law enforcement officers were wounded and injured.
And on January 5, the occupiers attacked one of the districts of Zaporizhzhia. The invaders' drone hit an excavator, its driver was killed.
