The Verkhovna Rada has appointed Mykhailo Fedorov to the post of Defense Minister. The relevant decision was voted for by 277 MPs out of the minimum required 226, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
Fedorov, 34, previously served as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation since July 2025.
During his speech to the Rada, Fedorov promised to bring the Ukrainian military-industrial complex to a new level Fedorov intends to conduct a deep audit of the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces to find additional opportunities to improve the financial and social welfare of servicemen.
He emphasized that financial security and social protection of the military is a priority for him, and promised to adjust the contract that was offered to the military earlier.
As for territorial recruitment and social support centers, Fedorov promised to propose an idea of what to do with them in the near future.
"We cannot ignore the problem of territorial recruitment and social support centers. After a comprehensive audit, we will propose a systemic solution to solve the problems that have accumulated over the years and at the same time maintain the country's defense capability," he said.
Fedorov has been Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science and Technology Development - Minister of Digital Transformation since March 2023.
Since August 2019, Fedorov has served as Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Digital Transformation.
During the presidential election campaign, Fedorov was the head of the digital direction at the headquarters of Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 13, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed Mykhailo Fedorov from the post of First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Digital Transformation.
In early January, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed that First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov become the new head of the Ministry of Defense.
