The net purchase of foreign currency by the population in December last year was the largest since January 2025 and amounted to USD 739 million in equivalent.
This is evidenced by the data of the NBU, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
Thus, the net purchase of cash currency by the population last month amounted to USD 732 million (USD 2.234 billion of cash currency was bought and USD 1.502 billion of cash was sold).
At the same time, non-cash currency purchases in December amounted to USD 389 million, and sales amounted to USD 382 million.

Compared to November, the volume of cash foreign currency purchases increased in December, while sales remained almost unchanged.
In December, foreign exchange transactions of the population traditionally become more active amid a seasonal increase in demand at the end of the year.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the National Bank of Ukraine on January 2, 2026 excluded the Bulgarian lev from the list of foreign currencies to which the official hryvnia exchange rate is set.
It was also reported that banks increased gold imports by 1% to USD 3.9 million in equivalent in November and reduced euro imports by 40% to USD 333 million in equivalent.
