Official Kyiv and Washington may sign USD 800 billion reconstruction deal in Davos - media

Ukraine and the United States may sign a "prosperity" deal to rebuild the country at a meeting of world leaders in Davos, which involves attracting USD 800 billion.

This is reported by The Telegraph portal with reference to Western officials

According to The Telegraph, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US leader Donald Trump "are heading to a Swiss mountain resort, where they are expected to meet and finalize the deal."

The publication adds that Zelenskyy intended to travel to the White House next week to conclude both an economic prosperity plan and an agreement on post-war security guarantees. However, his European allies from the "Coalition of the Willing" dissuaded him from this trip and suggested the World Economic Forum as the best venue for a meeting with Trump.

The "prosperity" deal is expected to inject USD 800 billion into Ukraine's reconstruction over 10 years.

"It is believed that this will open the way for a number of loans, grants and investment opportunities from private companies to provide funds. Kyiv hopes that Washington's offer to participate in post-war reconstruction, especially in projects that Trump may be sympathetic to, will increase the US President's willingness to provide reliable security guarantees," the Telegraph noted.

According to the publication, the agreement is based on a minerals agreement signed last year, which "gave US investors preferential access" to future mining projects in Ukraine.
