Negotiations become the word of 2025, and Usyk's response was the phrase of year. Results of language year from Myslovo dictionary

The word "negotiations" [perehovory - ed.] became the word of the year 2025 according to the dictionary of modern Ukrainian language and slang "Myslovo". The rating also included the words "Midas", "NRK" [ground robotic complexes - ed.], "cardboard", "kill zone", and the anti-rating was led by Ruslan Kravchenko's [Prosecutor General of Ukraine - ed.] phrase "I will come for each".

This is stated on the website of the online dictionary.

"Myslovo" explained that throughout the year the word "negotiations" was at the center of public attention, in particular against the backdrop of active discussions around the end of the war. The peak of interest fell on mid-May, when direct negotiations took place between the Ukrainian and russian delegations for the first time since 2022. Additional attention to the topic was attracted by the statements of the new-old US President, who publicly promised to end the war in a short time.

The dictionary also drew attention to the fact that along with the word "negotiations", the specifically Ukrainian "peremovyny" is used, however, the first option is much more often used in public speech - in particular due to the influence of the Soviet lexicographic tradition and proximity to the russian word "peregovory" [negotiations - ed.].

In addition to the main word of the year, the compilers of "Myslovo" identified a number of other concepts that most accurately reflected the events and moods of 2025.

  • Midas - the name of the operation of the anti-corruption bodies of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO);
  • cardboard - the general name of (successful) protests against the destruction of anti-corruption bodies;
  • kill zone - the zone of defeat on the front line;
  • infiltration - the tactic of infiltrating small groups of infantry through the line of combat contact;
  • NRK - ground robotic complexes;
  • justice;
  • exhaustion;
  • lie.

The list also included the English-language phrase "don't push the horses", said by Oleksandr Usyk, which became viral and caused active discussion.

Separately, the dictionary identified the anti-word of the year. It was the phrase "I will come for each", authored by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko. In "Myslovo" noted that this expression is associated with the most tragic pages of Ukrainian history and indicates the degradation of the law enforcement system.

Recall that the Oxford Dictionary named "rage bait" the word of the year 2025. Literally, "rage bait" is translated into Ukrainian as "bait for anger".

ADVERTISING

The American dictionary Merriam-Webster named the slang term slop the word of the year 2025 - this is low-quality digital content, created en masse, which has little value. In Ukrainian, it can be called "garbage content".
