Ukrainians in Berlin open Point of Invincibility against background of three-day blackout

The blackout in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district of Berlin has been going on for the fourth day due to the burning of electrical cables at a substation. About 45,000 households and more than 2,000 commercial facilities have been affected. Against this background, Ukrainian migrants have opened a Point of Invincibility for local residents.

This is reported by Radio Liberty.

Ukrainian refugees in Berlin have opened a Point of Invincibility. There you can warm up, recharge your equipment and drink hot tea. The point was organized by the Ukrainian-German center AdlerA e.V., which was created by Ukrainian migrants to support refugees and local residents.

"We hoped that there would be light. Ten thousand consumers were connected, and then turned off again. Unfortunately, the situation has not changed. Parents, families of children who visit our organization - both Ukrainian and German families - were the first to take advantage of this opportunity. They brought their children to dance, warm up a little, and immediately started charging their gadgets," says Oksana Orel, one of the organizers of the center.

Local residents, who have encountered a long power outage for the first time, are lighting their homes with candles, moving to friends' houses, or using emergency points. According to Ukrainians, the experience of living during blackouts in their native country allows them to organize help promptly and effectively.

The blackout began on January 3 after cables were set on fire, in which the left-wing radical group "Vulkan" claimed responsibility. The investigation is ongoing, and repair work on the power grid will continue until January 8.
