Penalty points for drivers planned to be introduced, but this is still under consideration - Patrol Police

Penalty points for drivers are planned to be introduced, but this issue is still under consideration. This was announced by the first deputy head of the patrol police department Oleksii Biloshytskyi on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Information has been spread on the network that a system of penalty points for drivers has been in place since 2026. This is not true. Currently, there are a number of bills that are designed to regulate this issue and in the future introduce penalty points based on the best practices of foreign countries. However, this issue is still under consideration, and penalty points have not been introduced!" he reported.

Biloshytskyi assured that the public will definitely be informed in advance about such large-scale innovations.

In October 2025, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Transport and Infrastructure, Volodymyr Kreydenko, reported that Ukraine was preparing to introduce a penalty points system, which has long been used in European Union countries to punish drivers for regular traffic violations.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in September, the Ministry of Internal Affairs denied information circulating on the Internet about increasing fines for drivers.
