President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed former Canadian Vice Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland as Economic Development Advisor.
Zelenskyy announced this on his Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Today, I appointed Chrystia Freeland as Economic Development Advisor. Chrystia is an expert in such issues and has significant experience in attracting investments and carrying out economic transformations," he said.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine now needs to increase its internal resilience for the sake of recovery, if diplomacy works as quickly as possible, and for the sake of strengthening its defense, if due to the procrastination of partners, it will have to work longer to end the war.
57-year-old Freeland is a Canadian politician of Ukrainian origin, in 2019-2024 she was the Vice Prime Minister of Canada, Minister of Finance of Canada, in 2017-2019 she held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, she was also the Special Representative of Canada for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, according to estimates by the Ministry of Economy, in November 2025 there was an acceleration of real GDP growth to 5.3% compared to 2.3% in October.
According to the State Statistics Service, GDP growth in the third quarter of 2025 was 2.1%, compared to the same period last year, for 9 months of 2025 real GDP growth is 1.3%.
GDP growth is expected in 2026 at 2.4%.
