In January 2026, the maximum throughput capacity of interstate crossings for the import of electricity from the European Union to the joint Ukraine-Moldova block increased to 2450 MW.

This is indicated in the official statement of Ukrenergo, posted on its Facebook page.

According to NPC Ukrenergo, the increase was the result of cooperation between the transmission system operators that are members of the Eastern Europe Capacity Calculation Region (EE CCR), ENTSO-E and the Regional Coordination Center TSCnet.

Vitalii Zaichenko, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, noted that the growth of technical capacity for electricity imports is an important factor during the cold season and in the context of constant russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

"Increasing the technical capacity to import electricity to Ukraine during the cold season and in the face of Russian attacks is definitely a positive change. It gives us additional opportunities to balance the power system and increases its resilience to various threats," he emphasized.

At the same time, electricity imports depend not only on the technical capabilities of interstate lines, but also on market factors, in particular electricity prices in Ukraine and neighboring countries.

"In any case, the January increase in the maximum capacity of imports from the EU is a factor that has a positive impact on our power system. In terms of daily imports, we have already surpassed the highest figure of the previous year," Zaichenko added.

The technical capacity of interconnectors for electricity imports to Ukraine and Moldova is determined on a monthly basis within the EE CCR.
