President Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly wants to remove Vasyl Maliuk from the post of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The Ukrainska Pravda media outlet writes about this, citing its own sources.
Unnnamed interlocutors of the publication said that Zelenskyy wants to dismiss Maliuk. It is proposed to appoint the head of the SSU as the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service (FIS) or the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), but the final decision has not been made.
It is emphasized that the appointment or dismissal of the head of the SSU requires a vote of the Verkhovna Rada, which is held on the proposal of the President.
At the time of publication of the news, the Office of the President of Ukraine or the Security Service of Ukraine did not comment on this information.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 2, President Zelenskyy signed a decree appointing Kyrylo Budanov as the new head of the President's Office. Prior to that, he served as the head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.
The President appointed Oleh Ivashchenko, who previously served as the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, as the new head of the Defense Ministry's Defense Intelligence.
Zelenskyy also said that he had offered Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov to become the new Defense Minister. The current head of the ministry, Denys Shmyhal, is to remain in the team.
In addition, the President instructed Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko to submit candidates to replace the head of the State Border Guard Service, Serhii Deineko.
