Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kalyniak believes that the prospect of Ukraine's membership in NATO is completely unrealistic. He stated this in an interview with TASR.
The official also emphasized that Ukraine's accession to the EU will also be quite difficult to achieve.
"Ukraine will never become a member of NATO, and it will also be difficult to ensure its accession to the EU," he said.
Kalyniak also expressed deep skepticism about the military-political initiatives of Western partners. Commenting on the efforts of states that are uniting to help Ukraine, he noted that he does not believe in the ability of the Coalition of the Willing to achieve any significant breakthrough.
These statements were made against the backdrop of Slovakia's general policy aimed at ending military aid to Kyiv from state reserves and focusing on humanitarian support, which is causing significant discussions among other NATO and EU members.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the United States will provide Ukraine with security guarantees that will be legally binding, analogous to Article 5 of the NATO Charter, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Recall that following the NATO summit in Washington, it was reported that NATO would invite Ukraine to join the Alliance when all allies agree and Kyiv fulfills all necessary conditions.
Zelenskyy is against changes to the Constitution regarding NATO, despite the lack of support for Ukraine's membership.
