On New Year's Eve, the Volyn Region was subjected to a massive attack by russian drones that targeted critical infrastructure. The head of the Volyn Regional Military Administration Ivan Rudnytskyi has reported this on Telegram.

According to Rudnytskyi, despite the work of air defense forces, hits were recorded in Lutsk and the Kovel District, where fires broke out at the sites of "hits."

Damage to Volynoblenergo's power facilities resulted in a power outage for 103,341 customers. As of the morning, there were no reports of deaths or injuries in the region.

This attack on Volyn was part of a large-scale air strike across the country.

According to the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the night of January 1, 2026, the enemy launched 205 drones of various types into Ukraine, about 130 of which were Shaheds. The attack was repelled throughout the night with the involvement of anti-aircraft missile troops, aviation, electronic warfare units and mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces.

But all attempts to transfer Kyiv's Left Bank to stable outage schedules have failed.

In case of a complete cessation of russian strikes on the energy infrastructure, Ukraine will need about two months to return to stable operation of the power system without blackout schedules.
