Officers of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) have served a notice of suspicion to the commander of a military unit stationed in the Donetsk Region and his subordinate, who, according to preliminary data, embezzled more than 17 tons of fuel. This is reported in the material of the SBI press service.
According to law enforcement, the deal was organized by the commander of the military unit. He involved an old friend, his subordinate, in the deal. According to the investigation, during May - October 2025, the offenders wrote off diesel fuel and gasoline almost every 10 days. With the same regularity, they submitted applications from the military unit for fuel and lubricants to ensure the fulfillment of combat missions
The defendants transported the stolen fuel to the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Region. Over the course of several months, the offenders appropriated, according to preliminary data, more than 17 tons of diesel fuel and gasoline.
"During another unloading of "written-off" fuel, the Bureau's employees documented the illegal activities of the military. Service documents, 980 liters of diesel fuel and 800 liters of gasoline were seized during the searches, experimental samples of fuels and lubricants were taken, other evidence of illegal activity was examined and seized," the Bureau said in a statement
It is noted that two military officers were served a notice of suspicion of theft of military property, with abuse of office, by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, committed under martial law (Part 2, 3 of Article 27, Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for up to 15 years.
Both defendants were chosen as a measure of restraint in the form of detention.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The total amount of stolen fuel and possible accomplices are being established. Measures are also being taken to compensate for the damage caused to the state.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in the fall, two officials of a territorial recruitment and social support center were detained in Zaporizhzhia who extorted a bribe from a veteran.
