President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the state cannot give up the territories of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Regions, as it contradicts the Constitution and current legislation.

The President said this in an interview with Fox News.

According to the head of state, the issue of territories cannot be resolved by a unilateral decision of the authorities.

"Neither the president, nor the parliament, nor a referendum can change one fact here: it contradicts our legislation," Zelenskyy said.

He emphasized that it is not only about legal norms, but also about the fate of hundreds of thousands of people living in these territories.

"We can't just 'withdraw' and leave them, given the number of wounded and dead. Our army is standing there," the President said.

Zelenskyy emphasized that any possible compromise decisions can be made only with the consent of the citizens of Ukraine. According to him, we are not talking about abstract agreements, but about a clear 20-point plan.

The President also said that among the potential formats of compromise, the option of creating a free economic zone with a mirror withdrawal of troops by several kilometers on both sides is being discussed.

"If the decision concerns such a format, then a referendum is the way to approve or reject it," Zelenskyy emphasized.

As a reminder, the Donbas issue remains open: Zelenskyy and Trump have not found a solution.
