On the night of December 27, the russian occupiers launched a combined strike on Ukraine using strike UAVs and missiles of various types.
On the air of Hromadske Radio, the head of the communications department of the Air Force Command, Yurii Ihnat, spoke about the features of the russian shelling.
"The nature of the attack is the movement of targets of different types from different directions, in fact, into one region. Today, the capital of Ukraine and the region were under attack. Critical infrastructure facilities are being attacked, of course, this is energy, other facilities that are of interest to the enemy. As you know, ground systems are operating, aviation is operating, coordination of actions of military command bodies is required in a small area. When such a dense attack is taking place, it is very, very difficult in organizing air defense. When there is an urbanized area, a high density of buildings, and that is why there are such, unfortunately, consequences when people, children, houses suffer under the enemy's attack...", the officer noted.
Yurii Ihnat added: "…If there is an attack using cruise missiles, of course, aviation will be involved. These are F-16s, there may be Mirages, there are also MiG-29s, Su-27s. F-16s are effectively working out, and they were also used in this attack."
"The peculiarity of the attack is different than last time, when the missiles actually flew through many areas where there was a possibility of intercepting them on the route, which was done in the last strike. Here there were fewer such chances of interception.
…It is clear that aviation cannot enter the zone where air defense is operating. Therefore, it is actually difficult, when everything is flying towards Kyiv, the region, to concentrate there both army helicopters that hunt for Shaheds and the work of ground forces..." Yurii Ihnat added.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on the night of December 27 and throughout Saturday afternoon, the russians massively attacked Kyiv and the capital region.
