The aggressor country of russia was forced to redirect most of its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) exports to Afghanistan and Central Asia due to European Union restrictions.

This was reported by Reuters on Friday, December 26, citing its own industry sources.

The agency's unnamed interlocutors said that from January to November this year, russia supplied Afghanistan and Central Asia with just over 1 million metric tons of LPG. This export volume is associated with the European Union's decision to impose restrictions on LPG imports from russia at the end of 2024.

According to traders, supplies to Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan now account for about 36% of russia's total LPG exports. Over the same period in 2024, the above-mentioned countries accounted for 19% of exports.

Afghanistan has become the largest importer of russian LPG. In the first eleven months of this year, supplies increased 1.5 times to 418,000 metric tons. Previously, Kabul actively purchased LPG from Iran, but it had to reduce imports from the Islamic republic due to US sanctions.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, yesterday, December 25, Moscow admitted that Western sanctions had thwarted russia's plans to increase production and export of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

As we will recall, last Monday, December 22, Bloomberg wrote that the price of the russian export brand of oil Urals had dropped to USD 33-34 per barrel.
