During the negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine, the parties are currently working on four final documents at once. US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker has stated this in an interview with Fox News.

According to the diplomat, the parties are now the closest to peace in a long time, but further developments largely depend on russia's position. Whitaker noted that the United States is trying to find out what concessions moscow is willing to make to end the war.

"There are four documents on the table right now that are being discussed in real time," he said, specifying that they are "a 20-point peace plan, multilateral security guarantees, security guarantees from the United States, and a plan for economic growth and prosperity after peace."

Whitaker emphasized that Washington understands Ukraine's position well, but russia's actions raise serious doubts about its readiness to compromise. "They continue to launch massive strikes on Ukraine at night, and that speaks volumes," the ambassador said, adding that russia remains the only party that does not declare concern about the scale of its own losses.

The diplomat also emphasized the role of US President Donald Trump. According to him, it is he who is able to bring both sides to the negotiating table. "President Trump, as the chief peacemaker, can bring both sides to the negotiating table and see if it is possible to conclude an agreement," Whitaker said.

Commenting on the prospects for a peaceful settlement on the eve of the Christmas holidays, the ambassador added: "Even with all the chaos, he is still ready to see the peace deal through. At this point, we should just pray for peace."

Earlier, the United States presented an updated peace plan to end russia's war against Ukraine, which, after being finalized, was reduced from 28 to 20 points. The most controversial issue is the territorial one, in particular, the proposals for Donbas, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly rejected, emphasizing the need to fix the ceasefire on the current front line and provide Ukraine with reliable security guarantees.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on December 22, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that negotiators are closer than ever to concluding a peace agreement between russia and Ukraine.

On December 22, Reuters reported, citing US intelligence sources, that the russian dictator has not abandoned his own aspirations to seize the entire territory of Ukraine and return to russian control the part of Europe that belonged to the russian Empire.

On December 18, US President Donald Trump expressed hope that Ukraine would act quickly during negotiations to end the war.
