Drones strike synthetic polymer plant in Tula Oblast of russia: fire reported

On the night of December 24, drones attacked the city of Yefremov in the Tula Oblast of russia. After a series of explosions, a fire broke out near a local synthetic polymer plant.

According to Telegram monitoring channels, the first explosions occurred around 3:20 a.m. Local residents reported at least ten loud explosions. Videos of bright fireworks in the sky and fire in the city's industrial zone appeared on social media.

Information about the fire is also confirmed by NASA FIRMS satellite data, which recorded hot spots on the territory of OJSC Yefremov Synthetic Rubber Plant.

The governor of the Tula Oblast confirmed the attack and the fire "at one of the enterprises," but did not disclose the extent of the damage or possible consequences.

The plant in Yefremov is one of the largest producers of synthetic rubber in russia and is of strategic importance for the russian military-industrial complex. The company produces dual-use products, including synthetic rubbers and polymers used to manufacture rubber products for military equipment, such as tires for army trucks, armored personnel carriers and aircraft.

Polyisobutylene additives play a special role in the production of fuels and lubricants and hydraulic fluids for tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and artillery tractors, as well as in the manufacture of sealants, insulating materials for military electronics and anti-corrosion coatings for weapons.
