Russian writer Boris Akunin said he did not plan to visit Ukraine even after the end of the war unleashed by russia. He wrote about this on Facebook, commenting on the decision in Kyiv to dismantle monuments to russian cultural figures and rename streets.
Akunin noted that he did not feel any resentment or bitterness over the demolition of monuments to Mikhail Bulgakov and Anna Akhmatova, as well as the rejection of russian cultural toponyms. According to him, what has been happening between russians and Ukrainians in recent years is much more terrible.
"Well, they demolish and demolish. It's their business. Let Ukrainians live as they want, read or not read any authors, as long as their russian compatriots stop torturing and killing them," the writer wrote.
At the same time, Akunin admitted that he considers the gap between the two peoples to be final. According to him, the paths between russians and Ukrainians have diverged and will never converge again.
The key thesis of the post was the writer's personal statement about his own attitude towards Ukraine and russia.
"In an interview, I said that russia is the last country in the world where I would like to be. So Ukraine is the penultimate. I will never go there either, even after the war is over," Akunin wrote.
The writer explained this by the fact that he would not be able to look Ukrainians in the eye after everything that happened, regardless of his anti-war position, which he himself called "mostly shaking the air."
At the end of the post, Akunin called for attention not to the dismantling of monuments in other countries, but to what symbols and monuments are currently being erected in russia itself, and added photos of monuments to Joseph Stalin and Ivan the Terrible, which were recently installed in russian cities.
