An accident with a freight train occurred in the Zhytomyr Region, as a result of which the passenger train No. 45/46 Kharkiv - Uzhhorod was urgently stopped, and its locomotive derailed.
This was reported by Ukrzaliznytsia in Telegram.
The incident occurred near Korosten. Due to the derailing of the freight train, the passenger train was forced to urgently stop, the locomotive was off the track.
No serious injuries were recorded among the passengers. One woman was cut by glass, she was provided with medical assistance on the spot.
At the same time, the locomotive crew of the freight train was injured: the driver and his assistant were hospitalized. Rescuers and railway workers on duty are working at the scene.
Train No. 45/46 was transferred to a neighboring station and sent along a bypass route. Due to the accident, the routes of a number of long-distance trains have been changed - via Shepetivka, Koziatyn and Fastiv. Expected delays are from three hours.
The following trains now run via Fastiv instead of Korosten:
- No. 1/123 Kharkiv - Ivano-Frankivsk, Vorokhta;
- No. 44/50 Ivano-Frankivsk - Cherkasy;
- No. 92 Lviv - Kyiv;
- No. 30 Uzhhorod - Kyiv;
- No. 8/150 Chernivtsi - Kyiv;
- No. 52 Przemyśl - Kyiv;
- No. 68/20 Warsaw, Kholm - Kyiv;
- No. 108 Solotvino - Kyiv.
Train No. 98 Kovel - Kyiv, as an exception, runs via Zhytomyr, with minimal delays.
At the Shepetivka station, passengers are transferred to a suburban shuttle to Korosten and back. Details of changes in suburban traffic are published on the channel "Ukrzaliznytsia: suburban trains".
Railway workers are working to speed up the movement of trains sent along bypass routes and restore the damaged section of the track as soon as possible.
