Swedish law enforcement officers stopped the russian cargo ship Adler, whose owners are under European Union sanctions. They are suspected of transporting weapons.

It was reported by Reuters and SVT Nyheter.

The 126-meter-long container ship suffered an engine failure while passing through the Øresund Strait. On the morning of December 20, the vessel anchored off the Kullaberg Peninsula in southwestern Sweden.

On the night of December 21, Swedish customs officials boarded the vessel, along with the coast guard and other law enforcement officials, for an inspection that continued into the next day. Customs reported that the operation went "smoothly" and that "the crew was very friendly."

It is known that Adler departed from the russian port of St. Petersburg on December 15. At the same time, Swedish customs officials have no information about the ship's destination.

The vessel belongs to the russian company M Leasing LLC, which is on the US and EU sanctions lists. According to Western sources, the company's vessels allegedly transport North Korean munitions, which russia then uses against Ukraine.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian drone Sub Sea Baby damaged the russian submarine Varshavyanka, making it unable to sail and perform tasks on its own. This submarine could have been carrying Kalibr missiles that were used against targets in Ukraine. As of December 18, it remained in the port, while other russian ships left the Novorossiysk base as a precautionary measure.
