Due to significant logistical complications caused by russian attacks, the rules of operation of checkpoints in the south of the Odesa Region are being changed. These measures are aimed at helping the residents of Izmail and Reni, for whom the way to Odesa has become critically difficult, Radio Liberty reports.
The government has agreed with partners on a flexible approach to the use of border infrastructure with Moldova for the internal needs of the region.
In particular, the Kelmentsi, Bronnytsia, and Vashkivtsi checkpoints, which previously served only passenger vehicles, now officially allow buses to pass through. In addition to passenger traffic, the changes have also affected freight traffic: two checkpoints that had a limited status are now available for trucks.
Seven main checkpoints are currently operating steadily in the region, and the expansion of the functionality of additional facilities allows for much more flexible organization of the delivery of goods and transportation of people bypassing damaged road sections.
Oleksii Kuleba emphasized that drivers do not need to obtain any additional documents to use the updated routes, as the existing permits are quite sufficient.
This decision is intended to ensure stable logistics and reduce the load on key highways leading to Odesa. According to the official, the adaptation of checkpoints that previously operated in a narrow mode opens up new opportunities for bus and freight traffic, saving the southern districts of the region from transport isolation.
We remind that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Ukrainians refrain from traveling through checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border in the Odesa Region.
Earlier, traffic on the Odesa-Reni highway was completely suspended, drivers are asked to take this information into account when planning their routes.
