The Head of State of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a press conference with Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro that it is not for kremlin leader vladimir putin to decide when and in what format elections will be held in Ukraine.
The video was posted on the Suspilne Novosti YouTube channel.
"There is a practice of foreign voting. This is a normal story in this situation. When we get to the issue of elections, there will be a little complication due to the number of Ukrainians abroad, but there is a task for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they have already started to deal with this - possible infrastructure abroad to make it comfortable for voting," he emphasized.
The President pointed out that elections can be held when there is security for them. He suggested that in this case, a large number of Ukrainians could come from abroad to Ukraine
Zelenskyy said that elections cannot be held in the temporarily occupied territories.
"Because it is clear how they will be held there. Russia first talks about the result, even in its internal elections, and then the votes are counted," he said.
The conduct of elections, he said, depends on security and legislation.
Zelenskyy also said that it is important that the military can vote.
"If American partners raise the issue, it means they know how to help Ukraine ensure safe elections. First of all, it can be the cessation of the war at least for the duration of the elections, or the end of the war," the Head of State added.
