Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has responded to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who expressed doubts that it was russia that carried out a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

This is how Minister reacted on X.

"They calmly have breakfast at home, drink their coffee and think how morally right it is to help a small country that has been attacked, though it's not so small, and it's not clear who attacked whom, but in any case, we are now helping a country that has been subjected to violence, and it costs us nothing. But in the end, they will pay," Orbán said.

"Just as “not clear” as it was for Hungaryʼs leadership in 1939," Sybiha wrote in response.

The minister alluded Orbán to an episode during World War II when Hungary was an ally of the Nazis. Hungary joined the Axis pact in 1940, participated in the invasion of Yugoslavia and fought against the USSR on the Eastern Front, where it suffered significant losses, especially after the defeat at Stalingrad, which led to the occupation of the country by Germany in 1944 and subsequent battles with the Red Army, which ended with the liberation of Hungary in 1945.

It is worth noting that the Hungarian regent Miklós Horthy, realizing Germany's defeat, began secret negotiations with Britain in an attempt to get Hungary out of the war. But when Horthy tried to withdraw from the war in 1944, German troops occupied Hungary.

Earlier, as the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Hungary again blocked the adoption of the European Union's annual enlargement statement, which contained an assessment of Ukraine's progress towards EU membership.
