The Chief of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, did not rule out that he will run for the presidency of Ukraine.
Blogger and political expert Oleksii Holobutskyi has stated this, analyzing the text version of the conversation with the head of the Defense Intelligence at the LB.ua Club, published by LB.ua.
"We talked about the war, mobilization, russia's plans, support for partners - these are heavy, serious, strategic topics and definitely not pre-election ones. But sometimes political signals appear not in the main part of the discussion, but in the very end. This is exactly what happened this time. The last question was not about the Head of the Presidential Office (as Sonya Koshkina rightly noted, it was "really ridiculous"), but about another: whether Kyrylo Budanov would run for president when the elections become possible. This is an expected question, and that is why it is important - because everyone has been waiting for it for a long time," Holobutskyi said.
He is convinced that Budanov's answer was as cautious as possible, but the key thing is that he did not say "no." And in the Ukrainian political reality, this means a signal: I will leave.
"I have not yet approached such a question... I am not sure that we will face it right now. And what will happen later is influenced by so many factors..." the political scientist quoted the DIU chief as saying.
He emphasized: this is not a refusal, but a postponed decision: not now, but not excluded either.
"The door is left open. And this was said publicly, at the end of the conversation, when there are no more casual words. Why is this important? Because Budanov is one of the few public figures today with a very high level of public trust. Moreover, he consistently appears as a "second choice" for different groups of voters. And this is a classic indicator of real electoral potential. People with this set of characteristics run for president. They don't always announce it right away, but this is how political subjectivity is formed: without loud statements, slogans, information campaigns, or billboards. It's through reputation, recognition, and deferred expectation," stated Oleksii Holobutskyi.
