The Ministry of Defense's DOT [State Rear Operator - ed.] has announced the purchase of armored blankets for the first time. They provide ballistic protection from fragments and can be used both individually and collectively. This was reported by the press service of the department.
"As a result of the joint work of the Ministry of Defense and the Command of the Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular the Central Management for the Development of Material Support, a new model of personal protective equipment was developed - a universal field tent (armored blanket)," the report says.
It is noted that this is the first technological solution created in Ukraine for the needs of individual and group protection of military personnel.
What is an armored blanket
An armored blanket looks like a dense tent and is a full-fledged means of protection. It is designed to protect against fragments of shells, mines or hand grenades, and consists of elements capable of detaining the means of destruction and dissipating its energy.
The basis is a soft ballistic package made of multilayer elastic material, placed in a waterproof protective cover.
The soft ballistic package of the item provides the F5 fragmentation resistance class according to the Vproof confirmation criterion at 550 m/s with a 95% confidence level and a probability of error of 0.2.
The product retains its protective properties under humidity conditions from 40% to 70%, at temperatures from -40 °C to +70 °C for at least six hours. Each armored blanket will be marked with a QR code with access to text instructions for use.
How can armored blankets be used
- when moving in open terrain;
- for covering dugouts and positions;
- in the absence of armored elements in transport;
- during the evacuation of wounded.
The Ministry of Defense's DOT will purchase the first 5,300 armored blankets for over UAH 132 million. Shipment is expected by the end of February 2026. Other purchases will be made next year in accordance with the declared needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
