Poland and Ukraine are negotiating the exchange of Polish fourth-generation MiG-29 fighters for a number of Ukrainian technologies related to missiles and drones.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Poland announced this yesterday, December 9.

"Negotiations are underway with the Ukrainian side on the transfer of MIG-29 aircraft. The transfer of the aircraft is associated with the achievement of their maximum service life and the lack of prospects for their further modernization," the statement said.

In connection with the transfer of aircraft, Warsaw is negotiating with Kyiv to provide Poland with unmanned and missile technologies. It is not only about compensation for equipment, but also about the acquisition and joint development of new defense and industrial competencies.

It was emphasized that Poland has not yet made a final decision on the provision of MiG-29 fighters.

The Polish General Staff called the possible transfer of fighter jets an element of the allied policy of support for Ukraine.

According to information from open sources, as of 2024, the Polish Air Force had 11 MiG-29A fighters and three MiG-29UB aircraft in service.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in September this year, The War Zone portal wrote that Ukraine's combat aviation fleet, probably was replenished with Azerbaijani MiG-29 fighters.
