On Tuesday, December 9, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Rome on a working visit and held a meeting with Pope Leo XIV at the pontiff's official residence near Rome. Vatican News reports.
The meeting took place as part of the President's working visit, during which talks with the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Italy Giorgia Meloni are also planned, presidential press secretary Serhii Nikiforov said.
As the Vatican reported, during a "candid conversation," Pope Leo XIV stressed the importance of continuing the dialogue and once again expressed hope that diplomatic efforts would lead to a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

The Pontiff separately touched on the topic of prisoners of war and stressed the need to return Ukrainian children to their families.
It should be noted that this is the third meeting of the leaders. Pope Leo XIV received the President of Ukraine for the second time at his residence in Castel Gandolfo, after the previous meeting on July 9. The first meeting took place on May 18, after the Holy Mass on the occasion of the solemn beginning of the pontificate.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in June, the first telephone conversation between Pope Leo XIV and russian leader vladimir putin took place. The Pope called on russia to make a gesture that would promote peace and stressed the importance of dialogue.
