US peace negotiators insisted that Ukraine agree to leave Donetsk Region - Axios

US representatives in the peace talks, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, insisted that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agree to Ukraine's withdrawal from the territories of the Donetsk Region, as russia demands.

This is reported by Axios, citing its own sources.

According to the publication, after the meeting of Witkoff and Kushner with russian president vladimir putin, they tried to get Zelenskyy to agree to such conditions during a telephone conversation.

Axios also notes that after the visit of American negotiators to Moscow, their peace proposal became less favorable for Ukraine.

During the telephone conversation, Zelenskyy said that he did not have time to familiarize himself with the updated plan in detail, since he received it only an hour before the call. At the same time, American officials insist that the document was transferred to the Ukrainian side the day before. Other Axios sources confirm that some of the provisions did indeed become known only shortly before the conversation.

Recall, US President Donald Trump stated that he was disappointed that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had not yet "read" the peace plan proposed by the United States to resolve the conflict.

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine has neither the legal nor the moral right to give up its territories to the aggressor country of russia. This issue remains one of the most difficult in terms of a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine.
