Ukrainian traders report a new wave of price declines last week for imported tomatoes.
This is stated in a announced by the EastFruit project, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The report states that a short-term but noticeable increase in prices a week earlier was the impetus for a significant decrease in demand for imported tomatoes.
The project experts also note that last week only single batches of local greenhouse vegetables went on sale, as most of the plants in the country have already completed the season for selling products for the next turnover.
Last week, supplies of imported tomatoes to the Ukrainian market increased significantly, which led to a noticeable increase in the supply of products on the market.
At the end of last week, tomatoes became cheaper by an average of 13% compared to the week before last, and now wholesale prices fluctuate within UAH 65-75 per kilogram.
The main reason for the negative price trend in the greenhouse tomato segment, producers call a sharp decline in demand for these products, as well as increased supply of imported vegetables, the quality of which did not always meet the expectations of buyers.
So, today, imported tomatoes in Ukraine are already on sale, on average 10% cheaper than in the same period last year.
However, most representatives of wholesale companies do not rule out further price reductions.
According to traders, if the current sales rates are maintained, they will be forced to continue to give in to buyers in order to prevent the accumulation of unsold products in warehouses.
