French military personnel have opened fire on unidentified unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) flying over the Île Longue nuclear strategic submarine base.
According to Politico, the French news agency AFP reported this on Friday, December 5.
The drones were spotted over the base on the evening of Thursday, December 4. The staff found five drones. They opened fire on them. It is not known whether the French soldiers managed to shoot them down or not.
Local authorities told AFP that a judicial investigation into the incident has been launched.
In November of this year, unidentified UAVs were spotted in the area, although not directly over the base. At the same time, the drones were recorded over the submarine base long before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the aggressor country russia
Île Longue is a peninsula near the city of Brest in western France. It is the base of nuclear submarines armed with nuclear ballistic missiles.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 4, the military was allowed to use weapons to destroy unknown UAVs in case they are detected over military facilities.
