During a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing, French President Emmanuel Macron called for support for the initiative to impose a moratorium on russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure in winter to avoid a humanitarian crisis.

Macron said this at a press conference after meeting with Xi Jinping.

The French leader expressed hope that China would support this initiative and join cooperation with European states for the sake of stability and protection of international law.

"We must join forces to achieve at least a ceasefire in the format of a moratorium on strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure during the winter as soon as possible," Macron said.

Macron emphasized that russian aggression against Ukraine poses serious risks to the security of Europe and called on Beijing to use its influence on moscow to help establish a just and lasting peace.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, China said that Beijing hopes for the soonest possible elimination of the "causes" of the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier, President of the European Council António Costa, at a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, expressed the EU's hope that China will help put an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war.
