Chinese President Xi Jinping told US President Donald Trump that he hopes Ukraine and aggressor state of russia will "narrow their differences" and "remove the root causes of the conflict," a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
Xi Jinping and Trump reportedly held a telephone conversation to discuss the "crisis" in Ukraine.
"President Xi stressed China's support for all efforts to promote peace, and expressed the hope that the various parties will narrow their differences, reach a just, lasting and binding peace agreement in the near future, and resolve the root causes of the crisis," the statement said.
Russia often uses the phrase "root causes of the conflict" as a euphemism to describe the goals of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Moscow regularly claims that it was provoked into starting the war by the prospects of Ukraine's membership in NATO.
The so-called "demilitarization" and "denazification", which were actively discussed in the russian federation in the first years after the start of the full-scale invasion, are also euphemisms. By these terms, the Kremlin means depriving Ukraine of sovereignty and subjectivity.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 24, US President Trump admitted that "something good" could happen in the process of resolving the russian-Ukrainian war.
As a reminder, yesterday, November 23, Ukraine and the US, following the talks in Geneva, published a joint statement in which they announced the completion of work on an updated and revised framework document on ending the war.
Also yesterday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that signals are coming from Geneva that US President Donald Trump's team is hearing Ukraine's position.
